We at RyseUp Studios decided early on to use an open development process. We wanted to make a game that our fans want. We have released an alpha version of some levels from the game and ongoing updates. Our community offers thoughts, feedback and suggestions. We take this information into account and quickly iterate over concepts and functions. We test it, make it available to the community, listen carefully, and then iterate on.
We are a small team. We don’t have the megabucks to throw money into trouble. But what we have is a passionate creative agency by our side, Waste Creative, who has been involved in the process from the start and helps us make wise marketing decisions. So open development allows us to test features, get valuable feedback, and either build on features fans like or get rid of features they don’t like.
We started open development in August 2020, and during that time we received wonderful news from the people at Xbox that they liked our game and wanted to have a chat. As a small indie developer working on their first game, we were thrilled that they noticed us.
What exactly is Roboquest?
Well, the year is 2700. Climate change and wars have changed the face of the world we know today. The people live scattered in the desert and struggle to survive.
A young scavenger girl named Max stumbles upon an old Guardian robot that lies abandoned in the sand. She activates it, knowing that owning a Guardian will give her a survival advantage.
Turning on the Old Guardian begins a dangerous journey that will take the improbable pair of dangerous canyons to huge cities in search of answers to secrets that could save humanity.
It’s going to be difficult. Badbots and their bosses will stop at nothing to protect the secrets that could determine the fate of humanity.
