The Google Messages application, which is the one installed by default on the vast majority of Android phones, has given pride of place in recent years to instant messaging platforms such as WhatsApp or Telegram. This does not, however, prevent that Google continues to integrate new features periodically.
A few days ago, for example, you added the ability to pin up to three conversations at the top, and we know you’re going to include your favorite messages soon as well. Now, in addition, started updating the Messages app
Categories to organize your SMS
According to Google itself, the two new functions that are coming to the Messages app are meant to help users organize and manage their SMS more easily. First of all, a new way to view messages: by categories.
The app uses machine learning technology to automatically categorize messages, including personal, transactions, OTP (one-time passwords) and offers. This means that bank SMS and invoices will be filtered in the transactions tab, while conversations with numbers saved in the phonebook will be hosted in the personal tab.
Google ensures that the classification takes place safely on the device, so that all conversations remain in the app and classified messages can be accessed offline.
On the other hand, and in order to reduce the volume of unnecessary messages, Google has also added the possibility of automatically remove one-time passwords (OTP)
To activate it, just tap “Continue” when the suggestion message appears; If we prefer to delete them ourselves, just press “No, thank you”. This function and that of the categories are optional and can be turned on or off in the settings of the Messages app.
Google has confirmed that they will start to arrive in the coming weeks on Android phones in India -and in English- with Android 8 or later versions. For the moment, he has not provided details of its implementation in other countries or in other languages.
