We reported a few days ago about the cute doodle gamethat Google is currently offering in its search engine for the start of the Olympic Games in Japan. Actually, the little gimmick should only act as a nice, entertaining pastime. But even this opportunity is not to be missed by speed runners in order to hunt for the best times.
Speed runners become Olympic
The principle of speed running should be well known and is simple: You play a game through as quickly as possible. The whole thing is then broken down into individual categories, for example when you use glitches to skip sections. Of course everyone wants to be the fastest, which quickly creates a competitive environment.
You can find more interesting information about the speedrun scene in our GameStar podcast. There we talked to two professionals about what motivates them to play a game as quickly as possible.

Even on Reddit there is of course a large community that is engaged in hunting for records. And it has even let off steam in Google’s Olympic game in the past few days. This also had a visible effect on the best times in the playable disciplines.
Every second matters
You can compete against each other in seven areas: Table tennis, archery, skateboarding, climbing, rugby, synchronized swimming and marathons. Of course, none of these mini-games are designed to take up a lot of time. However, the current best times make you sit up and take notice.
When climbing, a member of the Speedrun community on Reddit already achieved an incredible time of just one time 11 seconds. You don’t get a gold medal for this, but the person captured this world record on video:

Are you now in the mood for more crazy speedrun successes? Only recently, the existing world records were broken twice in Titanfall! Doom Eternal is even crazier. There a speedrunner decided without further ado to destroy the game in order to chase the record.
