The AirTag is a device that entered the market that same 2021, the launch of which was something everyone did not expect. Hardly anyone expected Apple to dare such an avant-garde and unknown product. Therefore, the company issues warnings regarding AirTag batteries, the replacement of which is delicate.
Apple recommends against using a certain type of battery to avoid compromising the performance of this locator. We will explain to you what these batteries are and why they are dangerous for AirTags.
What are AirTags made of
As many owners of this locator already know, the AirTag is like a small round medal, silver on the one hand and white on the other. It weighs next to nothing, as it is designed to be carried like a key ring with the keys of the house or the car. The caseback is made of stainless steel, with a look similar to what you can find in conventional watches.
This cover is removable to exchange the part that gives it energy. And it is that the AirTags work with a round CR2032 battery which is constantly connected to the mobile application to display the state of its energy and warn when it is depleted. Apple makes sure the battery lasts no less than a year, so there is plenty of time to change it.
Apple does not recommend these types of batteries for your AirTags
However, the company made another recommendation on this point. When it comes time to replace it, Apple advises you to choose the battery you are going to buy carefully, because not all of them will be so safe.
The coin-shaped batteries used by AirTags are difficult to swallow, so any child or animal can choke on them. For that Duracell
Many children swallow batteries a year, being small and handy objects, leaving a harmful chemical reaction in the stomach. To prevent this, Duracell has put in this bitter coating which is not toxic, but helps deter ingestion.
However, the cure will be worse than the ailment, as these batteries are not designed for Apple products. The battery replacement document on AirTags reports that bitter-coated batteries may not work with these locators
The contact of the coating with the battery is a problem, so Apple recommends that you purchase CR2032 batteries for your AirTags which do not contain any type of layer. This is a relief for the function of pagers, but a greater risk to the health of children or pets.
It’s up to you to decide which is the highest priority: whether you risk losing the AirTag or increasing your efforts so that the little ones don’t touch those batteries without a diaper.
