Over the past few weeks, I have noticed that from time to time Gboard was a little weird, although I wasn’t sure if it was a bug or a feature. It turns out that this is a bug, as several affected users have reported on platforms such as Reddit.
The error moves several keys, creating an extra row of keys and making the send or enter key larger, making all the keys very thin and typing becomes an ordeal. Although Google has not yet completely fixed the bug, there is a simple solution
Gboard goes crazy
Over time, we get used to the location of the Gboard keyboard keys, pressing them automatically. For that, If Gboard suddenly changes the key layout, it’s going to be a lot harder for us to write. This has been happening on and off since the beginning of the month.
The error may be difficult to detect because at first it may be difficult for us to know what has changed in Gboard. Was it always like this? You can see the subtle but important changes in the screenshots below. The most important change is that the keys are smaller
Personally, this error has been appearing for weeks now. intermittently: The keyboard works correctly and the next time I use it it adopts the “wrong” layout.
Google hasn’t commented yet and none of Gboard’s latest updates have completely eliminated the error, but luckily there’s something simple you can do to return Gboard to normal
What you need to do is open Android Settings, go to Applications and tap on Gboard. You don’t need to clear cache or data, but it works with Forced arrest from Gboard. The next time the keyboard is opened, it will display correctly.
While it’s not optimal to have to go to Android Settings to fix a Gboard error, the “good” news is that you shouldn’t need to do this very often, as the error appears from time to time. Until Google fixes the problem on their endis the only thing we can do, except, of course, use another keyboard app.
