GTA 6 in Vice City? We analyze the rumors
»Grand Theft Auto – The Trilogy Remastered«
What does the rumor claim?
According to the alleged leak, Rockstar is said to be working on a remastered trilogy which will feature the games San Andreas, Vice City und GTA 3 contains. Information about a potential release for PC as well as PS5 and Xbox Series X or PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch is currently not available.
Based on the original rumor from January 2021, fans should expect new information and a trailer for the remastered trilogy “within the next 90 days”. However, this did not occur until August 2021. This could mean that the rumor turned out to be false, but publisher Take-Two and developer Rockstar Games could also have simply overturned or postponed any plans.
Where did the rumor come from?
Fan and insider forum as a source: The focal point of the rumors about a new edition of San Andreas, Vice City and GTA 3 is the fan portal GTAForums This is where insiders and players regularly exchange ideas – for example, upcoming updates and DLCs for GTA Online are discussed.
The beginning of the rumors about a GTA remaster was made here by Mach1bud in the thread »Next DLC Speculation Topic MK X«. This user only posted an auspicious “Soon” under a post. WildBrick142 then pointed out that he was on the wrong thread for potential leaks.
Mach1bud replied that this was already intended in such a way that it would be “too obvious” in any other way. The forum admin Spicer-Vice then brought more light into the darkness and provided the conversation with the promising tags III, VC and SA – which of course stands for the games GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas.
Alleged information in prospect? A short time later, Mach1bud let himself be carried away to other posts in which he said that something should happen within the next 90 days: The terms “new engine” and “trailer” are dropped here. As already mentioned, this did not happen in the prospective period.
The discussion in GTAForums is supported by a third person: The Admin Uni shared a photo of three Shark Cards mockups on Twitter, which are conspicuously marked with three years: 2001, 2002 and 2004. And these are of course the ones Release dates of – you probably already guessed it – GTA 3, GTA: Vice City and GTA: San Andreas.

How trustworthy is the rumor?
Readers should note at this point: As promising as the rumors about a potential remaster collection of three GTA games may be, there is currently no official confirmation from Rockstar or Take-Two regarding any plans.
With a lot of caution and skepticism, fans should enjoy the posts of the responsible admins in GTAForums and on Twitter. Because it would not be the first time that stories are piling up on this fan page that turn out to be fake in the end. In addition, nothing happened to the alleged “GTA Remastered Trilogy” within the three months after the rumors originally hit.
It is noticeable, however, that various users and even admins from GTAForums quickly jumped on the car that Mach1bud pushed. In addition, there have been alleged leaks, teasers and forecasts in the past, which later came true. For example in the run-up to the Casino updates from GTA Online.
When rumors boil: The downside of the coin, however, is that alleged leakers like to profile themselves through comparable posts or simply try to troll other fans. For example, you can now find information not only in the GTAForums, but also on Reddit and Co. Find posts that supposedly share more information about a remaster trilogy, but only seem less trustworthy.

GTA 6 “leaked”: YouTube’s rules are to blame for the rumor madness
A case for rock star Dundee?
The rumors about a new edition of San Andreas, Vice City and GTA 3 cannot be really confirmed or refuted at the moment. However, it would seem reasonable to assume that if then Rockstar Dundee would work on such a project.
Former developer Ruffian Games was bought by Rockstar Games in October 2020after both studios have worked together for years. During the takeover, Dundee was already working on an unspecified rock star title.
That the studio is behind titles like Crackdown 2 or Halo: The Master Chief Collection (in cooperation with 343 Industries) for the time being with a new edition of well-known GTA games that earns spurs, would definitely make sense – even if this is pure speculation.
Take-Two has at least the prospect of new editions
Mysterious new editions give hope: In August 2021 also went out of one Annual report from publisher Take-Two Interactive shows that at least “three unannounced” new editions are being worked on. With this, of course, there is hope that games like GTA 3, GTA: Vice City and GTA: San Andreas are meant. The age of all three titles would at least warrant a remaster or even a remake.
In Interviews und Q&As (via VGC) the head of Take-Two Strauss Zelnick also indicated that remasters are part of the corporate strategy and that implementations of this kind are generally well received by fans and the press. In addition, Take-Two’s vehement action against various mods of the three GTA games described recently could also indicate that there are at least plans for a return of those titles.
That Take-Two is currently relaunching old GTA games is not necessarily a given. The publisher could just as easily reissue other titles from the in-house portfolio – so fans should continue to wait.
What do you think of the alleged “GTA: Remaster Collection”: Do the speculations seem conclusive or do you think they are nonsense? Would you look forward to a new edition of GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas or could you do without it? Let us know in the comments.
