When the myriad of delays and / or postponements in the video game industry becomes the new fashion, we shouldn’t be too quick to forget about the real Arlésiennes that have been browsing for many years. That’s pretty good because it’s been a few months since we told you about Beyond Good & Evil 2!
The last time we saw the long-awaited sequel to filming, it was at the heart of E3 2018, in other words … ages ago. Or almost. One year after the official announcement from Ubisoft Beyond good and evil 2 It promised to be promising, but the road still seemed very long. And as if the development wasn’t already complicated enough, director Michel Ancel bowed in September 2020, but the game’s producer wanted to calm down:
Michel has not been directly involved in Beyond Good & Evil 2 in a while as the team has worked hard on the solid foundation he has laid. We recently reached an important internal development milestone that enables us to offer hours of playtime and incredible degrees of freedom in our open world “Space Pirate Fantasy”. I’m incredibly proud of the team’s persistence, dedication, and continued dedication to making a great game.
This isn’t the return of the space cowboy
A year and a few stardust later, the situation seems to have changed significantly: According to information from journalist Tom Henderson, the development of Beyond Good & Evil 2 would actually be VERY complicated:
Beyond Good & Evil 2 would find itself in the middle of a crisis due to a lack of creative visions since Michel Ancel left in September 2020. Worse, the game would no longer live up to Ubisoft’s goals. The game would be referred to as “Skull & Bones 2.0” by some, and some developers believe that its discontinuation is only a matter of time.
The comparison isn’t very flattering indeed, as the Assassin’s Creed-inspired naval combat game, which has been in development for eight years, would also have been the victim of a lack of clear vision and would have cost Ubisoft more than $ 100 million by now.
New burning window
However, the few messages that Henderson posted on a famous social network allowed him to hear a different story. Contacted by a team member, he clarified the situation a few hours ago:
Beyond Good & Evil is still in development. “It will be a few more years,” said a developer I was able to contact after my news.
I’ve heard a lot about a release in 2024-2025.
If you are not desperate to find the duo Jade / Pey’j one day, you can officially continue believe and hope in iteven if the way seems long and full of pitfalls …
