Microsoft is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Xbox with another 76 games from the original Xbox and Xbox 360. Backwards compatible on current Xbox consoles. The games will support Auto HDR on Xbox Series X and get resolution boosts for them and Xbox One.
The list of games includes bestsellers such as the Max Payne trilogy; Fan favorites like Red Dead Revolver, Gladius, and Time splinter: Future Perfect; Pop culture relics like 50 cents: blood in the sand; From software ambiguities Otogi and Otogi 2; and mainstream controversies like Manhunt.
Backward compatibility was suspended in June 2019; Xbox Compatibility Program Director Peggy Lo called this surprise batch the “latest and greatest addition” to Xbox’s Backward Compatibility Program, announced at E3 2015 that brought Xbox 360 games to Xbox One the following fall. The program was later expanded to include original Xbox games.
In addition to Auto HDR (with supported displays) on Xbox Series X and Series S consoles, original Xbox games get four times resolution on Xbox Series X and Xbox One X; a 3-fold increase in resolution on Xbox Series S and a 2-fold increase in resolution on Xbox One and Xbox One S.
Eleven games (Fear, fear 3, Binary domain, and Deny mentioned) will get 60 frames-per-second support thanks to the FPS Boost feature introduced on Xbox Series X earlier this year. Additionally, an additional 26 games that were already included in the Backward Compatibility Program will receive FPS Boost support – including Fallout 3
“Together we celebrated our passion for incredible games and demonstrated the importance of preserving our legacy for future generations of gamers,” Lo wrote on Xbox Wire. “Compatibility and gameplay are at the core of Team Xbox and our community’s DNA.”
