Once you’ve finally received your PS5 and unpacked it, you can stand it upright or lay it down to the side. For the latter decision, however, you need the stand. We reveal how you put the PS5 correctly horizontally.
Connect PS5 and connect controller
Now connect it to the power supply and to the television using the HDMI cable provided. You connect the controller to one of the USB ports on the Sony console using the USB cable that is also included.
Turn on the PlayStation 5 and follow the setup steps displayed. They are self-explanatory and in a few moments you will find yourself on the user interface.
Transferring data from the PS4
Now you can transfer your data such as games and scores from your PS5 to PS5. To do this, I connected both consoles to your network in parallel and checked whether they are switched on. Now choose the following steps on the PS5:
- ideas
- System
- System software
- Data transfer
- Continue
Follow the further instructions on the screen and then the transfer will begin. This process can take a while. As an alternative or in addition, you can later connect an external hard drive to the PS5 and start your PS4 games from there.
We strongly recommend that you do this, because the next-gen console only offers you 667 gigabytes of available memory and you want to use that for your PS5 games.
After all, Sony allows you to save PS5 games on an external hard drive. The games cannot be started from there.
Install SSD and enjoy PS5 features
The optimal solution would be to build an SSD into the PS5 and use it as additional storage space. Sony made this possible with an update in 2021.
Only certain SSDs are compatible with the PS5 and they must have a heat sink. You can read which models you can buy in the article linked above. Sony had it early on Western Digital SN850 recommended. They are available in sizes of 500 gigabytes, 1 and 2 terabytes.
