Shin Megami Tensei V, the newest JRPG in the Atlus series, is set in Tokyo in the modern era. You play as a high school student who wakes up after a terrible earthquake in Da’At, an alternate universe in which Tokyo is ravaged by a war between angels and demons. In search of his friends, the protagonist is attacked by demons and almost loses his life, but is only barely saved by a being called Aogami. They merge and become a Nahobino, a creature that is neither human nor demon, similar to a deity. He and his friends are sent to Bethel, an agency charged with protecting people from the war between angels and demons, and they agree to help the agency save their version of Tokyo upon their return. To do this, the protagonist can keep his powers from Nahobino and his friends can learn to summon demons for defense. Shortly after they return to Tokyo, demons arise and it is up to you to rise to the rank of god to protect – or sacrifice – the world you live in.
