Original article, January 10: The colleagues from Wccftech allegedly a little bird tweeted that the Geforce RTX 3080 with 12.0 GByte will be presented on January 11, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. Europe time. You should be able to pre-order the card on the same day. Of course, the question arises: Why didn’t Nvidia present the card at CES 2022, where the company held a major presentation just days beforehand?
Apparently the performance at the fair was planned, but was canceled at short notice for unknown reasons. Should it be announced and published so soon afterwards, it would come as a surprise – even if, given the current situation on the graphics card market, it is questionable whether this surprise is cause for joy.
That the card should come has been a topic in the rumor mill for a long time. Also a Memory upgrade for the Geforce RTX 3070 Ti is under discussion.

Technical data: The RTX 3080 can do that with 12 GB
The focus of the improvement is the memory of the RTX 3080, which is being expanded from 10.0 GB to 12.0 GB. This is GDDR6X memory with a bandwidth of 912 GB per second, which is 20 percent more than the standard RTX-3080.
In addition to the memory upgrade, the 3080 gets more shaders. Instead of 8,704 there will be 8,960 shaders. This corresponds to a slight increase of three percent. In terms of performance, the 3080 with 12.0 GByte will, unsurprisingly, level off between the RTX 3080 with 10.0 GByte and the RTX 3080 Ti with 12.0 GByte.
How expensive will the new card be? Nvidia has not yet announced the price for the improved RTX 3080. We’ll probably find out more about this on January 11th, should the rumors prove to be true. On Nvidia’s official website, the RTX 3080 is currently priced at 719 dollars and the RTX 3080 Ti starts at 1,199 dollars.
However, it is no secret that you cannot get either of the two cards at the same price at the moment. Accordingly, the RTX 3080 with more memory will also be significantly more expensive than officially estimated. For orientation: The RTX 3080 is currently available from around 1,500 to 1,600 dollars, the RTX 3080 Ti from 1,900 to 2,000 dollars.
The high-end RTX 3090 Ti and the entry-level model RTX 3050 will be released on January 27th
In addition to the RTX 3080 with 12.0 GB, Nvidia has other graphics cards in store for January. The graphics card group thus covers the full range of the RTX 30 series. We are curious whether the RTX 3080 with 12.0 GB will really be presented tomorrow or whether the sources from Wccfetech will turn out to be misfires. Basically, the extreme prices and poor availability would also mean a big damper for the release of this model, even if a 4K card like the RTX 3080 12.0 GByte VRAM is actually a little better than 10.0 GByte.
