If you are an iPhone user fan of personalizing your screen, you cannot miss this new application which will allow you to have your friends in a dynamic widget that works in real time.
There are some great apps and games for your iPhone that you can’t miss, but there are also widgets that become must-haves. Widgets have become a new way to personalize devices by adding decorations or utilities that allow us to access everything from the iPhone home screen. It’s nice, of course, but let’s imagine widgets like a new way to socialize. That’s what Locket is for.
How was Locket born?
Medallion this is a relatively new app created by former Apple Developers World Conference student scholarship winner Matt Moss and tracked first by TechCrunch, a site that approached Matt to find out a bit about his new “Social-widget”
“I built this as a present for my girlfriend for her birthday last summer”
As Locket developed, Moss ended up creating a widget that also works as a social network, because it’s a space that connect several people in order to exchange photos which will be transmitted to the other’s iPhone. It’s basically a widget that allows your contacts to display their pictures on your iPhone.
Friends of Moss wanted to test the widget and that’s how the developer put his app on the AppStore, to quickly win over 2 million registered users from its launch on New Years until today.
What started as a solution to a long-distance relationship turned into a new project which has been adopted by many users around the world.
Locket launched with a video on Tiktok that quickly went viral, gaining 100,000 views in just a few days, making its video demonstrating Locket’s functionality and usage go viral. trend in social network with thousands of videos reproducing the original.

Medallion: photos in a widget in real time
According to Moss, has future plans for Locket, which include additional features or widgets as part of a subscription, other tools, and Android support. However, and according to him, what interests him the most is create a personal space shared with a small group of friends and family and not with thousands of followers.
“I think there is something quite important to build in the space of close friends and family”, dice Moss. “I think people, especially younger people, are a little more tired of apps that are a little too ad-centric and a little too metric-centric.”.
“You end up with these huge social circles in the app, where you have 1,000 friends on Instagram, or you have to go back and forth on Snapchat with your 100 closest friends, which really takes a lot of effort to the end of the day.”, keep on going. “So the idea of creating something that’s more geared towards the five closest people, or the 10 closest people, and then providing a way to make your phone more personal and people-focused rather than these apps , I think there’s a real appetite for it.”
Currently Locket is in the top 10 of the most downloaded free apps list in the App Store in the United States, Latin America and Europe. To use it, you must do the following:
- Download Medallion from the AppStore.
- Sign up with your phone number which will be used to create invitations via iMessage.

- Submit requests and accept your guests.
- Add app widget to iPhone home screen.

Moss mentions that Locket does not record any type of personal information that could compromise the confidentiality of the application, but over time this aspect will improve. You also cannot choose photos from your camera roll or use filters in the camera.
