In the community of the tactical SWAT shooter Ready or Not there was almost only love and approval in the air. But now, shortly before the first substantial update in January 2022, the community is threatened with a split. Not just in a metaphorical sense, but quite concretely.
Players argue about whether VOID Interactive could not be on the wrong track with the payment model. The developers charge 36 dollars for the Standard Edition in Early Access and a whopping 100 dollars for the Supporter Edition. In addition to a few skins and the knowledge to support the developers, there is something else important in the expensive package.
Supporter Edition players get updates first. The developers argue that the patches can be tested in this way before they are rolled out to the majority of the community.
Critics counter that even Early Access is a kind of test game. From a technical point of view, you can also easily set up a test branch for the Standard Edition on Steam. Some commentators are therefore annoyed, angry or irritated.

Waiting for bug fixes
user IronEleven
points out that it sucks to have to wait longer for fixes for problems. Specifically, the person addresses the extreme reaction behavior of the opponent AI:
That’s the biggest annoyance I have with waiting for this patch in particular. It’s frustrating to know that the suspects snapping behavior has been fixed. But it’s not in the branch you have access to.
Other players will not be able to play future content with their friends for a while since they have different editions. This also causes trouble, since they have to undo an update for multiplayer matches and can only play together on the older build.
There is disagreement among players as to whether Ready or Not should continue with early access to backer-only updates. A vote on Reddit with around 2,900 participants produced different camps. Nevertheless, the majority spoke out in favor of a simultaneous release of the new updates.
Question: Should new updates come out for everyone at the same time?
- Yes – 735 votes
- Yes, but as a selectable beta branch – 783 votes
- No, better than a soft launch with 2-7 days of early access – 643 votes
- No, better than a soft launch with 8-14 days of early access – 444 votes

What the developers say: VOID stressed on Steamthat it is important to test updates before they are released for all players. Many bugs have already been fixed in the past. This ensures a smoother experience for all other players. In addition, VOID wants to offer the supporters something tangible in exchange for the financial support.
