Just a few hours ago, Platinum Games started a KickStarter campaign to finance the arrival of Wonderful 101 on Nintendo Switch and more platforms. The appeal has started with great force, so it is to be expected that it will fulfill all its objectives, but it is surprising that after the injection of Tencent's capital the Japanese studio goes to the fans to face this development. The creators of Nier Automata clarify that not all of their own projects will be financed collectively from now on.
Atsushi Anuba, lead producer of the studio, assures Eurogamer that this fact will not be the norm from now on, but the purpose of this KickStarter campaign is to probe the interest of users for the project, rather than necessarily raising money for it. "It's more like saying, hey, we're all going to come together and make this project a reality."
"Therefore, in the future there is no need for crowdfunding and to do it again, this is only a particular case," says Anuba. "But If in the future there is a similar case in which crowdfunding makes sense, it is an option that we will consider
The Wonderful 101 financing campaign has already raised more than 1 million euros, exceeding the goal set for its launch also on PlayStation 4. Besides, Platinum Games would have three other projects to announce for the same year.
