In May last year, the fun dodgeball title Knockout City was released via EA. Less than a year later, a change in the business model is imminent. In the future, the title should be playable for free.
Developer Velan Studios has announced that the dodgeball title Knockout City will switch to a free-to-play model later this year. This was announced in a post about the future of the game.
The change from the paid to the free game model should therefore be completed at the beginning of the sixth season; this is currently scheduled for spring 2022, but there is no specific date yet. When the time comes, you will be able to dive into the game without any initial financial investment.
There is also a second change: Electronic Arts will no longer be the publisher of Knockout City; this role should then be filled by developer Velan Studios himself.
Those who have already purchased the game will be paid separately in the course of the free-to-play switch. All buyers of the previous full version will receive the Season 6 Loaylty Bundle, which includes legendary cosmetic items, XP boosts and 2,000 holobux; the latter is the title’s in-game currency.
Independent publishing should allow Velan to “completely realize its own vision for the long-term future of the game” without having to coordinate with EA. However, Electronic Arts was thanked for its support in the first year since the release.
