a mobile that requires a step in the mid-range

The segment between 200 and 300 dollars has very interesting smartphones that compete every year to offer the most for a contained price, and with the arrival of the Motorola G71, it is enriched with a new member. We have analyzed this Motorola mobile, which is based on a design that follow the lines we’ve seen in other business mobiles like the Motorola E40, and like this, it is one of the few recent devices that bets on placing the fingerprint reader on the back.

Features Moto G71

A continuous but effective design

The design of the Motorola G71 follows the same lines as other business phones, with a curved back with a soft-touch plastic finish, but this, in turn, prevents the mobile from slipping out of your hand when you hold it.

In this rear part there is a module with a triple rear camera with three sensors arranged vertically and occupying the same size inside, although the sensors they have a different diameter. In the rest of the module is the Flash LED and a bottom with the aesthetics of carbon fiber.

In addition, the company logo also find the fingerprint reader of the smartphone. This is a very natural location when handling the mobile, but it has the disadvantage of not being able to be used if the mobile is placed on a table for example. It works well, although it could be a bit faster.

On its right side it has a rather special triple buttons, with the power button under the volume buttons, and these in turn under the button to summon Google Assistant.

Personally, I find this a bit confusing, and sometimes I’ve pressed a button by mistake, but It’s not noisy either. since they are properly separated and, in addition, the power button has a certain relief that allows it to be easily distinguished.

Its Snapdragon 695 makes it very dissolving

A Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 inside and with light software like that of Motorola, in addition to 6 or 8 GB of RAM is good combination on paper, but also in practice. Of course, the processor has some limitations in the photographic section.

In social networks and daily tasks, I had a good experience, bridging the high end, of course, but with a decent speed and smoothness. We note that this is one of the most recent mid-range processors from Qualcomm.

It’s not a cell phone with a high-end processor, and if you compare it with any of them, the differences are noticeable, but for what it costs, the hardware combination of this G71 does not not disappoint.

For a user who is primarily looking for app usage and occasional gaming, this Moto G71 may well be worth a shot.

one panel is enough

The Moto G71 is not an excessively large mobile, its screen size is 6.4 inches, and it is OLED technology, it is therefore compatible with functions such as the active screen, a classic of Moto smartphones.

This board has a 60Hz refresh rate, it therefore does not offer greater fluidity, but on the other hand it consumes less energy.

On a day-to-day basis, it’s enough screen to enjoy media consumption and gaming, but without much fanfare. Its brightness level is sufficient in the sun, but could be improved.

As usual it has a section in the configuration where you can slightly change the saturation and temperature colors to leave it to everyone’s taste.

A camera that eclipses the rest of the features

Although the rest of the mobile aspects performed quite well, the camera is the weak point of this Moto G71. It has a triple rear camera with a 50-megapixel main sensor, an 8-megapixel ultrawide and a 2-megapixel macro camera.

By day or with good lighting, the mobile is able to take photos quite well, but it presents problems in certain situations in which even with HDR activated it is not able not to burn the sky.

The level of detail is good in many cases, but not all, and on many occasions the processing overdoes the sharpness. The night, results get worse and there is less definition.

Its secondary cameras aren’t as important as the main one, and they’re great for some specific shots, but not much more.

My UX, a light layer, but which contributes

Motorola has long boasted of having a light customization layer and using many Google apps as system apps, such as Google Photos as a gallery, and Google Calculator or Files as a file explorer.

This means that when you turn on the mobile for the first time, hard to find pre-installed apps to uninstall, although you are free to do so with Google Play Movies, Facebook, YouTube Music, Google Fit, Slides, Sheets or Docs, which are some of the preinstalled applications that it integrates.

There is a floating button which activates in games and which allows access to different very relevant options when reading, like blocking calls and notifications, activating a high performance mode, taking a screenshot or starting a recording and even a stream on Twitch. Moreover, you can add a shortcut to two applications of your choice.

Moto app is another great addition to Motorola mobiles. This simplifies the settings added by the manufacturer and classifies them by category in a very visual way and without many submenus, which makes it easier to modify the configuration of the mobile rather than from the settings.

On top of all that, Motorola’s MyUX layer has some really useful features like watchful screen, this prevents the mobile from hanging while you watch it.

The company’s gesture system can also save you time with shortcuts like turn on the flashlight by shaking the mobile twice, open the camera by quickly twisting the phone or turning it upside down to activate do not disturb mode.

Unfortunately, the Moto G71 still has Android 11, and at this point in the year we could already expect it to come out with Android 12, the most recent version of the operating system.

A mobile recommended, unless you prefer the camera

In general, this Moto G71 is a good mobile, able to perform well in multitasking with various applications or when browsing social networks. It is slower than more expensive mobiles, but it does not disappoint in this regard. Obviously, it does not reach the level of slightly more expensive mobiles.

Its screen is OLED and has the characteristic advantages of these panels, such as purer black colors able to save battery by displaying black color, which makes it ideal for dark mode. However, given the price of the mobile, we expected a refresh rate above 60 Hz.

On the other hand, its size makes it comfortable, both to use it and to carry it in the pocket, and don’t weigh too much which is also a point to keep in mind.

If you prefer mobile photography, maybe this one falls short in certain situations, because although it can take good photos during the day, it is not its strong point, and at night the quality of the photos is reduced.

Also, its ultra-wide and macro sensor, while it can get good results on some occasions, doesn’t deliver everything it should. In short, the experience was quite good, and it’s close to being a round mobile.
