As far as the Russia-Ukraine conflict is concerned, the games industry is now more united than ever before. Amazon is also taking action and abandoning the planned Russian version of the successful MMORPG New World.
Amazon has now also positioned itself in the Ukraine conflict and wants to send a message to Russia. For this reason, the Russian version of the online role-playing game New World, which is actually in the works, has been abandoned for the time being and its publication has been delayed until further notice.
In an interview with TechRadar Gaming Christoph Hartmann, Vice President of Amazon Games, has now commented on the current situation and confirmed that the development of the Russian localization of the game has been stopped. In this respect, Amazon is now one of a number of prominent games and technology companies that want to forego business in Russia in view of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, including Apple, Microsoft, EA and CD Projekt RED.
Hartmann underlined the fact that this step was taken explicitly because of the war. It remains to be seen to what extent Amazon will discontinue further business areas in Russia. It is also unclear how the currently much more popular Lost Ark is doing in Russia; the action RPG has been available there since 2019.
