On the 25th anniversary of the manga, Bandai and ILCA announce a new One Piece Odyssey RPG for 2022. An original story that will be available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, Xbox One and PC.
A quarter of a century is something to celebrate, and Luffy is determined to do it. Bandai Namco and ILCA reveal a Brand new JRPG : One Piece Odyssey for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, Xbox One and PC 2022.
An original story
The trademark registration of One Piece Odyssey in Japan takes on its full meaning today with the announcement of a new game developed by ILCA (Pokémon Sparkling Diamond and Sparkling Pearl, Dragon Quest XI: Fighters of Destiny…), a JRPG in collaboration with Eiichiro Oda, the creator of the manga. A great 25th anniversary gift.
In the video visible below, producer Katsuaki Tsuzuki tells us sospace-san a “he himself designed the characters and monsters that breathed life into the gaming world and the essence of One Piece”. To put the odds on its side and not just be a “vulgar adaptation,” One Piece will tell Odyssey his own original story :
During their adventure, the Straw Hats, led by Monkey D. Luffy, are engulfed in a massive storm at sea and find themselves on a mysterious, windswept island covered in lush vegetation, but separated from each other and utterly destroyed by the Thousand Sunny. In the midst of wild nature, powerful enemies and strange encounters with the inhabitants of the island, the crew embarks on a new adventure. Players must work with Luffy and the crew members to set sail again!
You will therefore guide Luffy, but also Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, Chopper, Robin, Franky and Brook along the way turn based combat.
One Piece Odyssey: A Word from the Producer
Katsuaki Tsuzuki, producer of Bandai Namco Entertainment, commented on the announcement:
We are excited to join the celebration of ONE PIECE’s 25th anniversary with the release of One Piece Odyssey. We’ve teamed up with ILCA Inc. and collaborated with Eiichiro Oda to create a grand, dramatic adventure set in the One Piece universe, in a game that we hope will exceed player expectations.
He also returns in a video to the genesis of the project, the involvement of Eiichiro Oda or the appeal of this new software. According to him it is “probably the first game also evolved meticulously over such a long period of time“.
One Piece Odyssey will be available in 2022 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, Xbox One and PC.
