Microsoft Edge is on the rise.
With Internet Explorer, Microsoft has created one of the basic browsers of the time. However, later alternatives such as Chrome, Safari or Firefox convinced users more, which is why Internet Explorer was often only used to download another browser.
With the Chromium-based Microsoft Edge, however, things got a little better for Microsoft, even if it carried with it the somewhat dubious reputation of Internet Explorer. In the meantime, however, Microsoft’s browser has blossomed into the second most popular option worldwide on desktop PCs, overtaking Apple’s Safari for the first time.
This is based on the data from Statcounter out. The statistics company publishes data on browser usage on a monthly basis. In March, Edge was able to secure second place for the first time, after the browser had always gained slightly in percentage points since April 2021.

As of now, Edge is used by 9.65 percent of desktop users worldwide, but Safari is very close behind at 9.57 percent. By the way, Google Chrome is at the top with a huge gap with a whopping 67.26 percent. At the bottom are Opera with 2.83 percent and the good old Internet Explorer with at least 0.92 percent.
In Europey the picture is very different
Where Firefox is just behind Safari and Edge in an international comparison, the browser is far more popular in Europey. Here, 22.23 percent use it, which is more than a fifth of desktop users. Google Chrome is also number one here, but with just
43.98 percent.
Microsoft Edge has been slightly more popular in this country than Apple’s Safari browser since April 2021. However, there is no clear trend as to where the journey could lead.
It is conceivable that the number of users will continue to increase with a switch to Windows 11. Microsoft initially made it difficult for customers to change their default browser. In the meantime and after harsh criticism, it is now easier. Nonetheless, Edge is still set up as the default, which could provide a percentage point or two of growth.
There’s a lot going on with Windows 11 at the moment anyway. Microsoft now wants to rebuild the operating system with numerous updates.
