On the PlayStation 5, Sony also wants to take its VR headset PlayStation VR to the next level. The new PSVR 2 is supposed to be released this year, but a new report is now bringing a postponement to the coming year into play.
Even if Sony has not yet made an official an nouncement, there are now signs that the PlayStation VR 2 will no longer be available in 2022. At least that’s what a prominent analyst in the video game industry claims.
In this case, we are talking about Ross Young, the CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC). According to him, Sony may not be able to launch the VR headset successor later this year. In a tweet, he mentions that not only Sony but also Apple have already internally postponed their planned VR headset to 2023. The tweet states that although the VR segment will grow noticeably in 2022, a major leap in growth can only be expected in the coming year if the VR headsets from Sony and Apple are postponed.
In this context, it should be noted that Sony itself has not yet given an official date for the release of PSVR2, but based on the known details it was generally assumed that it would be in autumn 2022. At least insiders have so far always suggested a publication in the current year. According to Ross Young, such statements could be outdated in the meantime.
Previously had with PSVR Without Parole Another source has already said that PSVR2 will not come until 2023. All in all, the signs of a release next year seem to be increasing, although the shortage on the chip market could also play a role. We will of course keep you informed of further developments!
