Haden Blackman is leaving Hangar 13 and 2K Games
Haden Blackman is known for his Author work on Star Wars, DC and Marvel Comics but above all for the games in which he participated. He was a writer on Star Wars: Starfighter, Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter, Star Wars Galaxies: Empire Divided, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, and a writer and project lead on Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Mafia III and Mafia: Definitive Edition. 2K just announced internally that Blackman is leaving the studio and publisher to work on a new project.
Hello Team, It is with mixed feelings that I share some leadership updates from Hangar 13. Haden Blackman is retiring from leading the Hangar 13 studio and leaving the company to pursue his passion on a new project.
Nick Baynes gets his job back
Haden Blackman was notably responsible for founding the studio by founding and Merging teams from Brighton in the UK, Novato in California and part of the 2K Czech team in the Czech Republic. He also gave his Letters of nobility in the studio, sometimes quite coolly received after a Mafia III by the fans, directing the project of Remake of the first Mafia with Mafia: Definitive Edition
We are grateful to Haden for his leadership in creating Hangar 13, building and uniting the teams in Novato, Brighton and the Czech Republic, and releasing several mafia games and collections that have shaped the studio. What Haden helped build will continue to grow in the coming years. We support all of our employees in pursuing their passions and wish them only the best for the future.
Nick Baynes, Head of Studio at Hangar 13 Brighton, will lead the Hangar 13 studio. With 30 years of industry leadership experience, Nick joined Hangar 13 to found Hangar 13 Brighton in 2018 and has spent the last four years growing the team, building studio capacity and launching great projects such as Mafia: Definitive Edition and the mafia trilogy.
I hope you will join me in thanking Haden, wishing him well and congratulating Nick on his well deserved promotion. Change can be a challenge, but also a source of new opportunities and successes.
We are confident that the studio is in good hands for the many ongoing projects and the team has the full support of 2K.
It is because of that Nick Baynes, who will take his place and specifically lead the new Hangar 13 project, not officially announced yet. As a reminder, Take-Two had canceled a project called Volt in 2021, which was launched by Hangar 13 and had cost the publisher $53 million.
We don’t know about Haden Blackman’s new project yet. We know that hall 13 are working on a new game that hasn’t been officially announced or named yet.
