In a perfect world, every new computer with Windows 10 on it – or all the new installations of Windows 10 – will come with no annoying applications and other things that need to be done by a few people. (Sorry, Candy Crush Saga.) It can also be annoying advertising. While that doesn't mean that Microsoft is dumping big Coke banners or something on your OS, it does it is it is frustrating to see it shock through its Edge browser in your startup menu.
At least, that's what some people have realized now, more than ever. If you are a Firefox user, for example, you may have seen this little callout in your Windows 10 launch menu:
This is nothing new for Microsoft. Yes, direct advertising, yes, but Microsoft is throwing annoying "suggestions" on your Start Menu, as the company calls them, for a Windows 10 agreement. However, it is not difficult to disable this ad completely.
To disable these stupid suggestions, pull down your Windows 10 Settings menu. From there, click Doing what you love, then click on Get started option in the left sidebar. Look for the following option and disable it: "Show suggestions from time to time at the beginning"
If you want to go to old school, you can also use an open source application like Open
And while in the Settings app, click Lock screen. If you do not use the image or slide as background, select that, then do not choose the option to "Get exciting facts, tips, and more from Windows and Cortana on your lock screen." In other words, you don't want to mess with suggestions or ads.
In the end, take it back to the main Settings
It's annoying that you have to do this, but turning off Microsoft advertising should be one of the first things you do whenever you launch a new version of Windows 10. I'm not sure why Microsoft can't make these options to close, because people paid for app where these "suggestions" come from, but it's fast – thanks.
