Sega Just released its financial results for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2022, and in addition to reporting some solid revenue over the past year, the publisher noted that it will focus on releasing more remakes and remasters.
Between now and 2026, Sega is keen to invest 100 billion yen (about $775 million) to boost its position in the global gaming market — a growth the company specifically named as it is currently expanding. The publisher outlines the “entertainment content business” (read: gaming) as “the most important growth area for the future.”
Notably, the company expects to release around 13 games in the next fiscal year, which is from March 2022 to March 2023. In particular, the Japanese company noted that it expects to see a “significant increase in new games.”
But what could they be? We already know what five of them are: Sonic Frontiers, Sonic Origins, Soul Hackers 2, Two Point Campus, and 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim for the Nintendo Switch (you should all play). The remaining eight games will launch over the next eight months.
There could be another football manager at the end of the year — a fairly regular addition to Sega’s lineup — and Creative Assembly is also working on this mysterious sci-fi FPS. It’s been in development since at least 2019, when the developer shared that film director Neill Blomkamp visited the studio to learn about the project.
Maybe we’ll hear more about the Persona and Shin Megami series – given the success of Persona 5 Strikers, Megami Tensei 5 and Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne Remake over the past year, You’d think Sega would be keen to capitalize on the series’ unstoppable momentum. There have been rumors that Persona 3 Portable Remastered is available for multiple platforms – let’s see if that’s true.
We already know that Atlus is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Persona series, so it makes sense that the developers wanted something big to commemorate the occasion. According to Persona’s 25th anniversary website, the anniversary’s next big reveal will come in June. Get excited, guys.
