Last Tuesday developer Respawn Entertainment opened the fourth season of Apex Legends. In advance, there was plenty of jokes with the community. With Forge, to the surprise of many, a new legend was presented in the spotlight, which was then quickly cut down by Revenant. Revenant is no stranger: He appeared for the first time during the Halloween event. Season 4: Assimilation still has a few changes in its luggage that are shaking up the shooter.
The developers at Respawn Entertainment can be pretty sloppy. Shortly before the start of the fourth season, when the time came to present the new legend, it was not Revenant that was in the spotlight, but Forge. Instead of the killing simulacrum, players should be able to move into the arena with the five-time Hyperfighting Federation champion. But that was all just a red herring, so a diversion. At the end of an animated trailer, Forge was killed in front of a camera during an interview. From whom? Of course from Revenant, the actual newcomer.
Death is not enough
Revenant was once human and one of the best mercenary syndicate contract killers. Meanwhile, he is a tinny killing machine with a pronounced sense of revenge. Hammond Robotics, to whom he owes his makeover, tap into the planet Talos. Just where the Apex games have been taking place since Season 3. Practically. This way Revenant can diligently bring other people around the corner, but at the same time keep an eye on those to whom he owes his current situation.

The newcomer has some interesting mechanics that players were able to try out in part at the Halloween event. Revenant is able to climb higher walls and crouches faster than the rest of the legends. With his active ability "Silence" Revenant throws a kind of grenade that does damage on the one hand, but also prevents enemies from using abilities. As the ultimate ability, Revenant summons a death totem: any squad player who touches the death totem will be revived within a certain time window should death occur.
Revenant is definitely a lot of fun after the first rounds. Its high freedom of movement enables interesting ambushes in places and its ultimate ability is practical in any firefight. This does not come without a price: Revenant takes five percent more damage per hit than his colleagues. Nevertheless, in the long term, he should be sure of a permanent place in the trios. In the right hands, Revenant spreads a lot of fear on the battlefield.
Climate change? What climate change?
The planet Talos, which was chosen as the destination of the Apex games last season, continues to be battered. The previously mentioned interventions by Hammond Robotics have had a lasting impact on the arena. Above all, Capitol City was hit hard. Now a fat ditch with lava runs through the abandoned city and somewhat equalizes this popular point. It is still a lot of business, but due to the natural separation, the once large city is now easier to handle when there are other teams nearby.
It is also interesting to see what possibilities the lava flows open up in the new season. Instead of giving up the spoon in the event of a misstep in the lava, you take 25 points of damage and rise again due to the updraft, which even enables ingenious new tactics.

The new planetary harvester replaces the fuel storage and is certainly the biggest eye-catcher when approaching the island. Not only an interesting place to land in sweaty battles right from the start, this gigantic construct serves well for general orientation on the map. The various levels are open enough that there are hardly any sneaky bottlenecks. A significantly upgraded area compared to the previous season.
This also applies to the surveying camp, which can be found between the epicenter and the sky hook. It offers another alternative on the island that is well worth a visit. Basically, after my first 62 games in the fourth season, I have the feeling that the teams are spread out a bit more evenly and not just head for the nodes. The agony of choice when jumping was increased, which is good for the match.
A swirling weapon meta
With the arrival of the Sentinel, a lot has happened with sniper rifles. The most serious effect is probably the fact that the precision weapons now have their own type of ammunition. The triple take no longer relies on energy ammunition, nor is the longbow supplied with heavy ammunition. The G7 slips into the assault rifle genre and can no longer be equipped with sights that have a high zoom level.
The devotion is only available in a special golden shape in drops. A good decision, after all, a devotion with subtle extensions was one of the most destructive weapons in the game. The Turbocharger was taken out of the game, which should make Havoc fans sad. The recoil was adjusted, but precisely because the weapon fires with a little delay, the Havoc is only really useful in experienced hands. For this, the L-STAR is now in the loot pool. The EMG no longer needs to be reloaded and now works as in Titan Case 2 by tearing enemies up to a medium distance in no time at all.
Even if the fourth season of Apex Legends has only just begun, the innovations and changes seem to have a hand and foot. I am particularly excited that this time the series of rankings is divided into two halves. Until March 23, you can let off steam on “On the Edge of the World” before the return of the Royal Gorge is imminent. Even if the game has just celebrated its first birthday, there are sure to be nostalgic feelings. Now Valentine's Day is just around the corner, which is also celebrated in Apex Legends.
