Today, Dragon’s Creed fans finally got some big news. A decade later, the sequel to the cult classic action RPG has been announced: Dragon’s Dogma 2.
The game is confirmed to be in development as part of the Dragon’s Creed anniversary video, which also talks extensively about the history of the series and how it has grown.
Series director Hideaki Itsuno will be returning to helm the project, and during the unveiling, we only learned that Dragon’s Dogma 2 is currently in development — and that’s it. At least we saw the lead developer take off his jacket to show us a logo, though. At least so.
Unfortunately, that’s what we got. Aside from the announcement itself, Capcom didn’t reveal any game details, or real details of any kind. But after Tuesday’s Capcom Showcase trolls, we’ll do our best.
Dragon’s Dogma originally came out in 2012. Directed by Devil May Cry’s Hideaki Itsuno, the game incorporates various inspirations. Its combat was as gorgeous as a spectacular fighter jet, and its world had a day-night cycle with distinctly mechanical implications – a rarity at the time.
It’s also loved for its large monsters and massive boss fights, which players can mount and take down in spectacular fashion while fighting. Perhaps its claim to fame, however, is its Pawns system, which allows players to recruit and train AI companions to accompany them on missions, and even trade them to other players.
The game has since come to PS4, Xbox One, and PC as a Dark Arisen release, which includes expansions and various other technical upgrades and improvements.
If you’ve never played Dragon’s Dogma, now might be a good time.
