long-lost final fantasy 7 Square Enix has revealed that the spinoff is finally returning as a remaster.
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion The news was revealed in a special livestream to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the original Final Fantasy VII – finally giving new fans a modern way to buy and play this legendary FF7 spinoff.
Crisis Core was originally released as a PSP exclusive in 2008. Despite its popularity, and while some other PSP Square Enix games like Final Fantasy Type-0 and Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep jumped to other platforms, Crisis Core never did – very much after the console was discontinued It remained a PSP exclusive for a long time. Additionally, Crisis Core was never available digitally—so it wasn’t even playable on the Vita. In recent years, the only reliable way to pl ay the game was to get a PSP or emulate it.
However, that’s no longer the case – Crisis Core is back, with a remastered version of the game set to release on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch consoles with a release set Winter 2022. The exact date has not been detailed.

Crisis Core – Final Fantasy VII – Reunion is a true remake that follows the original story of SOLDIER 1st Class Zack Fair, whose mission is to find the missing SOLDIER Genesis Rhapsodos, unravel these stories Cloud, Sephiroth, Aeith, Tifa and more,” reads the game synopsis provided by Square Enix.
With Final Fantasy VII Remake heading into its second edition, playing Crisis Core may be very helpful in understanding its ongoing lore – since Crisis Core’s main character Zack Fair has a role in the game .
Crisis at the Core is a prequel to the regular Final Fantasy VII, telling the story of Zack, a young soldier who becomes Cloud’s friend and inspiration. The game showcases brand new events in the FF7 universe, but also intersperses key moments from FF7’s flashbacks – adding more context to them.
