StarCraft Ghost finally back? Blizzard is planning something

Blizzard, finally, Ghost, planning, StarCraft

An announcement from Blizzard could revive wild hopes for StarCraft Ghost, a title that was very promising on paper but was unfortunately abandoned years ago.

Remember back in 2002 when Blizzard announced StarCraft Ghost. It was an action infiltration game in the legendary SF universe. We played as Nova, a ghost, an elite unit skilled in assassination missions and endowed with psionic powers. The title was supposed to appear on GameCube, Xbox and PlayStation 2 before it was unfortunately canceled despite promising presentations. Fast forward to November 2024, where Blizzard opens a recruitment offer for a playstyle that could fit this unfortunately abandoned project.

Could Blizzard give StarCraft Ghost another chance?

Since the release of Legacy of the Void in 2015, Blizzard’s iconic StarCraft series has been left fallow. Last September, after the book was published Play Nice: The Rise, Fall and Future from Blizzard Entertainment We learned from Jason Schreier that a shooter in the SF universe was in development. This week Blizzard released a new one Job offer. The studio is therefore currently looking for a Design Director in Innovation for a “ unannounced open-world shooter ».

This therefore perhaps confirms Jason Schreier’s comments in his latest work. So the stars could finally be aligning to mark the big return of StarCraft Ghost or an equivalent title. Quite bizarrely, Blizzard quotes David Bowie in its job advertisement to motivate candidates. “ Explore the unknown depths. And if you don’t feel like your feet touch the ground yet, you’ve come to the right place to do something exciting ».

Remember that Blizzard has tried to create open-world shooters many times in addition to StarCraft Ghost. One of the most prominent examples was the MMO codenamed “Project Titan.” From the ashes of that canceled title emerged Overwatch, which shook the hero shooter genre and pop culture like a tsunami in 2016 before unfortunately faltering over the years. Recently, Odyssey, another survival-oriented shooter, was also canceled due to an injunction from Microsoft following its acquisition of Activison Blizzard. Let’s hope this new attempt is the right one, especially to potentially bring the legendary StarCraft license back to life.
