Sonic the Hedgehog 3 coming to the cinema December 24, 2024. This message comes from Twitter post by Sonic voice actor Ben Shwartzhe announced the news on the social media platform with a quick gif and plenty of excitement.
This follows the very successful box office return of Sonic The Hedgehog 2, which crossed the $400 million mark before its run was complete (check out this Nintendo Life article for more). It seems like Sonic’s journey through the world of family-friendly movies is more of a marathon than a sprint.
For those of you who haven’t seen the predecessor, it’s actually not bad, and seems to break the spell of bad video game movie adaptations that seemed to be inevitable for other properties over the past few decades. In their review of the film, editor Alex Donaldson concluded: “It boils down to a video game movie with a heart, and that heart brings a kind of bucking the trend. The quality of the action, it’s actually a second look at a video game movie you might want.”
As for what we can expect from this new film, a major plot point in the end credits of the previous film gave us a glimpse into the future of Sonic and the gang. Will they overcome this new threat? Or will it overshadow the Sonic team? We’ll have to wait a while to know for sure, but it’s good to know that these lighthearted films are getting more love in the near future.
