Victorian-style fantasy game is coming to Early Access nightingale has been postponed.
Game developer Inflexion Games said the delay was due to the switch to Unreal Engine 5. Thanks to the switch, the game will now enter Early Access sometime in 2023.
“We have made the difficult decision to delay the Early Access release of Nightingale until the first half of 2023,” Inflexion said in a statement. “We’ll have more information on the exact timing later.”
“This move is based on two considerations: The first is an upgrade to Unreal Engine 5. After reviewing what UE5 might offer, we decided to upgrade now rather than wait until after release.
“Secondly, Inflextion Games is committed to delivering the best experience possible and delivering on the promise of Nightingale’s world for players.”
To achieve this, the studio says the additional development time will allow the team to make key improvements, enhance content and refine the gameplay.
The announcement also promises more game development updates from the team in the coming weeks.
Announced in 2021, this shared-world survival crafting game was originally set for Early Acces in Q4 2022, featuring a rich Victorian gaslight fantasy setting. In it, you’re trapped outside your world, cut off by the sudden collapse of a mysterious network of portals. This catastrophic event leaves you and many others fighting for survival in a mysterious and dangerous realm.
Interestingly, you’ll use a set of procedurally generated realm cards that shape the next realm you’ll head to. While each realm presents new dangers, discoveries, and surprises, you can influence factors such as the environment, the number of enemies you touch, the amount of resources, and more.
When you unlock the portal, you’ll find adventure in Faewild forests, swamps, deserts, and jungles, and encounter abandoned remnants of past Realmwalker expeditions. You’ll also investigate mysterious Fae buildings and scout ruins.
Since it’s also a crafting game, you’ll cook, build shelters and weapons, and craft tools to harvest trees, ores, and plants, as well as rarer resources. You can also enhance your gear with magical properties.
The game allows you to design and build various styles of estates. Your estate can be upgraded and customized, and you can form communities with other players to live on the land. NPC workers can also be recruited to do some work for you.
At times, you’ll also have to fend off an invasion of Fae mimics known as Bounds and join other players in battling large, top-tier creatures.
Nightingale can play alone or in collaboration with others. You can now wishlist it on Steam and the Epic Games Store.
