Destiny 2 Touch of Malice drop location and how to get the catalyst explained

Catalyst, Destiny, drop, explained, location, Malice, touch

Destiny 2’s Touch of Mischief is a classic Exotic that made a comeback in Destiny 2.

It’s a one-of-a-kind scout rifle, powered by the dark power of Oryx, the Taken King, himself. It can deliver incredible damage per second, but at a high cost to the wielder. The last round in the chamber will instantly regenerate, but steals health from its wearer every time he does.

Touch of Malice, or ToM to Destiny aficionados, returned during Destiny 2’s Season of Plunder alongside the restored King’s Fall raid. It’s a random drop, and the Touch of Malice catalyst is hidden behind a puzzle-easter egg combo.

Here is how to get Touch of Malice and unlock catalyst.

How to get Touch of Malice in Destiny 2

Touch of Malice is exclusive loot in King’s Fall Raid. It’s much easier to acquire than in Destiny 1, where it was the prize at the end of a long treasure hunt and chain of quests. In Destiny 2, all you need is a good raid team and a bit of luck.

Touch of Malice tomb of Oryx, the final boss of the Taken King raid. This is a random fall with a relatively low probability of falling (community surveys estimate around 5%). The only thing you can do is raid and keep raiding. You have a chance to receive Touch of Malice once per character, per week, provided they are part of a team that kills Oryx. This gives you up to three injections per week. The rest is just luck and perseverance.

It’s currently unknown if there’s any “bad luck protection” for the Touch of Malice drops – meaning if it doesn’t drop after so many encounters, there’s a system to make sure you’ll get it eventually.

The season of plunder has arrived! New additions include the Sails of the Shipstealer quest and Quicksilver Storm. Meanwhile, there’s the arrival of King’s Fall and the Touch of Malice exotic weapon. How to Get the Touch of Malice Catalyst in Destiny 2

Touch of Malice, like many other Exotics, has a Catalyst that can be unlocked to further enhance the weapon’s abilities.

The Touch of Malice catalyst grants an ability called Quick hit. When enabled, precision hits increasingly increase reload speed and make the gun more stable. This makes it much easier to maintain an accurate shot – the key to maximizing damage.

To unlock the Touch of Malice Catalyst, you must stand on a series of plates with the Touch of Malice equipped at various locations in the King’s Fall Raid. This will cause four orbs of light called Relics to spawn in this area. You and your squad must grab and dunk them all simultaneously. A timer appears when the first Relic is held, so be sure to find them and place a Guardian next to each one before picking one up.

raid entry

The first plate is near the raid entrance. Head down the hallway lined with statues in the center of the room, then turn left to the room in the back left corner of the large open chamber.

Deposit at the altar of middle of the large central chamber, directly behind the portal that opens at the end of the raid entry encounter. Beware of the howlers that appear when you bring the relics.

Golgoroth Cellar

The next plate is in the room that contains the hidden chest in Golgoroth Cellar, in a small alcove next door. As before, walk the Touch of Malice stand on this plate to spawn the relics.

Spread out to find the four relics. Once everyone is ready, round them up and jump in the hole in the hallway right next to the hidden chest. It is no longer a bottomless pit, but rather a small room containing the altar. Have everyone dive simultaneously, then move forward.

Transept, Oryx’s basketball court

The final plate is towards the end of the transept, the jumping puzzle with the large wall bumpers that launch unlucky guardians into the abyss. Look at the ground after crossing the second hidden bridge, at the foot of the climb to the exit.

Once you’ve collected the relics, everyone should head back to entrance to find the altar. At the bottom of this room, narrow floating bridges will have formed, climb them and dive as a group to the altar.

A door will open just to the left if that changes. This leads to an area colloquially known as Oryx’s basketball court. It was originally a well-hidden easter egg in Destiny 1, now it’s the final piece of the Touch of Malice Catalyst puzzle.

There is a large altar at the back of the room and a large number of relics scattered throughout the room. Now is the time for everyone to start grab and dip as fast as they can. Once all relics are soaked, the Touch of Malice wielder receives their catalyst. It still takes a massive number of kills to power the catalyst for it to activate, but now you can start that grind. Enjoy!

Good luck adding Touch of Malice to your Exotic collection!
