It’s been almost a month since we saw the official launch of Android 13. Only available on select Google devices and pending its arrival on other manufacturers, but enough that we could carefully test this stable release and draw some conclusions.
In this post we will tell you all the good, the less good and the bad that we have experienced these weeks. In preview, we can already tell you that it is a very continuous version, but that it hits the mark with its small details. However, there are still Bugs to correct
Even the Pixel 6 Pro isn’t without issues in this build
Among the few devices currently compatible with Android 13, the Google Pixel 6 Pro is the best continent for software in terms of hardware. It’s in the terminal we tested it in, and while we can’t call the experience a negative in all terms, it does leave some sweet and sour taste
The first is the heater. It’s not that the device reaches high temperature levels to fear for its integrity or ours, but excessive heating is often seen in everyday situations such as browsing the Internet or making a call with the screen. off. Maybe the summer temperatures didn’t help, but in Android 12 it didn’t.
We also met gap when opening certain applications. The official BBVA app is one of them, which opens, but takes at least a minute to display its main panel. However, it may even be comprehensible as a third-party application. What is less expected is that Google applications take so long to be native to the system.
The Google Maps app in particular even stopped its opening process. During these weeks, and as an estimate, we could say that it opened quickly and the first half of the time. However, it seems that Google is aware of this and in recent days it seems to be going more smoothly.
These problems, which really only caused us some occasional inconvenience without being something serious, they were already present in the last beta. With what, it’s one more symptom that Google really got ahead of the expected launch, since it was supposed to be this September when it arrived stably.
A good update overall
The lack of some news in this first version it could also be a negative aspect, although the truth is that we are not missing anything that is so important that it becomes a requirement from the first version. An example of this is the Material You-friendly icon extension in third-party app icons.
In any case, and removing the bugs seen above, what is there works very well. There are good performances in general terms as we already did with Android 12 and, fortunately, autonomy has not suffered and we continue to reach the end of the day with a good percentage. Although, as always, it will also depend on the use we make of it.
In fact, as we said at the beginning, the best of Android 13 is in the small details
improve the system automations This is another of the great little details and that we could already feel in our first impressions of Android 13. One of them is to program the dark mode according to the bedtime configured in the Digital Wellbeing app or the new 10% limit to enable power saving mode.
Without stopping to talk about the battery, a much appreciated visual and informative change this month with Android 13 is to be able to know the battery of all our devices from the widget on the home screen. So we can see not only the remaining battery percentage of the mobile, but also other Bluetooth accessories such as wireless headphones or a smartwatch.
So, as a conclusion, Android 13 leaves us with a good taste in the mouth from its first month and with hope for improvements in future updates with the arrival of all his news. Now, we understand that can be a bit of a disappointment if one is looking for a game-changing change from Android 12.
