The classic Fatal Fury and the much loved Garou Mark of the Wolves that triumphed in arcades and Neo Geo will have a sequel, and we already have a little more clear where the blows will go: Yasuyuki Oda will be at the helm of this delivery again after a lapse of more than 20 years. He will not be alone, as other historical figures from the Osaka company return, but what we can expect is much more in line with the latest SNK titles.
Announced as one of the great surprises of the past EVO, the big plan is to resurrect the franchise Fatal Fury where the last installment of the saga left off. An initiative that worked very well with The King of Fighters and Samurai Shodown taking their superstars from classic pixel art to 3D models. A treatment that we will also see in this new foray into the series Garou Densetsu.
The essential: even though Garou Mark of the Wolves is a legitimate extension of the series Fatal Fury, Oda already tells us that the new game will not be some kind of Garou 2sino a continuation of the Fatal Fury saga. A sequel that, in the process, will take advantage of many of the ideas of Garou’s planned second installment, whose development was canceled and “kept in a drawer” until quite recently.
The team in front, according to Oda to the VGC medium, is in very good hands: at least ten members of the golden stage of the SNK fight have joined the project along with new younger developers. Also. calls are being made so that those former SNK workers who are linked to other companies can contribute to the project of the new Fatal Fury
With everything, and following the trail of the new fighting games of the current SNK, Oda has already confirmed that the characters of the new Fatal Fury will be three-dimensional models. Of course, work is being done to offer its own style in terms of aesthetics.
That is definitely the direction we are going to take. We are clear that we will use a 3D engine, but its art style will be very different compared to what we have done in the past.
Yasuyuki Oda knows very well what he is doing. He was involved in key SNK sagas during the 90’s as Art of Fighting
The new Fatal Fury it is taking shape, although it does not have a decided date. In fact, the announcement during the EVO can be summed up in that SNK has given the green light for a new delivery to be made and it was accompanied by a simple illustration of Rock Howard, the son of Geese and a disciple of Terry Bogard. Opening the door to see the answers that remained in the air of that unfinished story and that promised a sequel through the endings of its protagonists. It is time to fulfill that promise.
