Early impressions of PSVR 2 have been revealed on the internet as Sony has invited a large group of media and content creators to try the next big step into the virtual reality battlefield. Several attendees were wearing goggles, holding controllers, traveling around and writing down their impressions, and we decided to put it all together in one place.
So if you’re curious about whether PSVR 2 has progressed enough from its previous iteration, you can find a range of different impressions below. Of course, we’ve credited and linked back to each article, and if you want to learn more, we highly recommend skipping and reading everything!
First, we have Ian Higton’s excellent description of their impressions at Eurogamer. In their extended impressions article, they cover not only their thoughts on the hardware itself, but also VR games like Horizon Call of the Mountain, Resident Evil Village, and enhancements to Star Wars: Stories from Galaxy’s Edge Version. They started their work: “Whoa. Whoa whoa whoa. That word kept popping into my head when I was trying to sum up my time on the PlayStation VR 2. As an avid VR fan over the years, it’s safe to say I’m a fan of Sony’s My first hands-on experience with the upcoming headset wowed me in VR – love taking off my socks.”
The Verge’s Jay Peters had a more conservative, but still positive, impression of the new hardware in their written report. Launching their work by immediately comparing it to the original PSVR, Peters immediately set a high bar, saying, “Even after using the device for a little while, it looks like the new headset will be a major upgrade over the original PSVR. Almost in every way.” They later rate the Sense controller highly, calling its haptics “remarkable,” which makes sense given the PS5 pad’s excellent haptic feedback.
Polygon writer Matt Leone isn’t trying to hide their love for the new headset in their impressions article – titled: “PlayStation VR2 Made Me Love VR Again”. After trying four games at a press conference with the hardware, Leone said the PSVR 2 experience “reminds me of what we’re missing.”
Finally, let’s show some YouTube creators some love by highlighting a video of VR Oasis’ impressions of the PSVR 2. As you might have expected, this is yet another positive for the hands-on activity. They said early on “The first time I put on the headset, I was immediately impressed with how the soft rubber-faced gasket fits your face, blocking all ambient light and allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the headset.
