Less than a month to go and Age of Empires will be a quarter of a century old! On October 25th, the first part of the popular real-time strategy series will be 25 years old and that should be celebrated properly.
The studios behind the latest offshoots of the series have come up with a little something for the birthday. The birthday is celebrated with new announcements in a large live stream, and gifts are distributed to the players.
The celebratory live stream begins October 25 at 7:00 p.m. You can watch on the following websites:
• Twitch
• AgeofEmpires.com
• Age of Empires YouTube Channel
• Xbox YouTube Channel
• Red Bull Gaming YouTube Channel
There are gifts for the fans
No birthday without presents. And as is usual with birthdays for game series, in this case the gifts are more likely to go to the guests. More specifically, you, the fans, some of whom have been with us for 25 years.
All in all, there will be free content for the three most recent games in the series – ie Age of Empires 4, Age of Empires 3: DE and Age of Empires 2: DE. Curiously, the Definitive Edition for the first part is completely empty.
This is new in Age of Empires 4
Age of Empires 4 gets the biggest innovations. As announced a few weeks ago, the so-called Anniversary Update will be released for the RTS on the day of the birthday. This is the biggest update for Age of Empires 4 so far, which celebrates its first birthday in October.
The most important innovation of the big patch are the two free races. The Mali and the Ottomans have already been featured in a trailer:

The update loaded even more free content. Here you can see an overview of all the new features of the Anniversary Update:
- Two new races: Mali and Ottomans
- Eight new maps
- Two new biomes
- New challenges
- Neue Achievements
Simultaneously with the new update will also appear on Steam and Microsoft a new edition for Age of Empires 4. This is the Anniversary Edition. However, this is not a version with unique benefits. The Anniversary Edition only includes all previously released updates including the Anniversary Update – which is free for the normal game anyway. This edition will replace the base game in the future.
Season 3 starts on October 25th and brings waymarkers
The third season of Age of Empires 4 is also starting on the anniversary of the series. The second season, which began on July 14, is currently still running. You can find out what innovations there were back then in this overview. For Season 3, we are again expecting unique, cosmetic rewards that you can dust off by completing challenges during various events.
In addition, it has already been announced that further improvements will be made to the game with Season 3. For the first time, team games are rated in a ranking list, the balance of ship battles has been revised and players finally get real markers, which fans have been wanting since the first beta.
Season 2 offered very little new content to encourage migrating players to return, does Season 3 do it better now?

Age of Empires 4 takes a risky path with Season 2
This is new for Age 2 and 3
In fact, Age of Empires 4 is played significantly less than Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition – which continues to get new DLCs regularly. The third part is also currently supported. There’s a little less new stuff for these two games, though. Expect new challenges and rewards here. But there are no free peoples or the like.
