Recent reports suggest that a remake of Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Zero Dawn is on the way, five years after the original game’s release.
The report comes from MP1st, who claim “sources close to the situation” announced that Horizon Zero Dawn is getting a PS5 remake. According to MP1st, it’s unclear if this will be a remake or a remake.
However, some details have reportedly been revealed, including an improved lighting system, overhauled textures, and enhanced animations. There are also said to be better character models to bring it in sync with its successor, Horizon Forbidden West.
In addition to this, MP1st also reports that the remake (or remaster) will offer better accessibility options, as well as different graphics modes to choose from.
Horizon Zero Dawn has a performance patch that will allow the PS5 to run the game at a solid 60fps, although there isn’t yet a game port that will allow it to take full advantage of the PS5’s hardware and DualSense controller.
Following MP1st’s report, VGC and Gematsu also confirmed the rumors through their own sources. Additionally, VGC reports that the Horizon series may expand to multiplayer. After the co-op failed to make it to Zero Dawn or the Forbidden City, Guerrilla is allegedly reserving the feature for a future project, which VGC sources believe is a Horizon 3 or spin-off project.
That said, is it really necessary to remake or remake Horizon Zero Dawn in this case, in my opinion? I understand bringing the game to PS5, but it seems unnecessary to remake a game that’s only just turned 5 years old, to say the least. Remember when we thought The Last of Us Part 1 was unnecessary? You could say this totally takes the cake, but maybe Guerilla and Sony will surprise us.
I think many of us would rather see Sony fund a new IP, or maybe finally give Bloodborne the TLC its fans crave, but it’s what it is. What do you think of reports that Horizon Zero Dawn is being remade?
