Microsoft typically announces most of its new Surface products in September or October, and it doesn’t look like it will be any different this year.
The company has confirmed that it will hold the “Microsoft Fall 2022 Event” on October 12, with plans to “talk about devices”, suggesting Surface will be on the agenda.
Only one Surface device, the Laptop Go 2, has launched so far this year, which means many more could be announced at the event.
But if we stick to the latest leaks, only three new products will be announced. Microsoft may throw up a surprise or two, but that’s all we’re waiting for right now.
Surface Pro 9
Last year’s Surface Pro 8 was a major release for Microsoft, which has helped reestablish it as the best 2-in-1 you can buy thanks to several key updates. Nothing that big is expected in the Pro 9, but there are rumors of changes worth talking about.
Most notable is a merger with the Surface Pro X, which would bring ARM and 5G to the device for the first time. New Intel and 4G models are still expected, but that makes sense given how similar the two products are.
Supposedly, it will also come in two new colors: Forest and Sapphire will be added to the existing Platinum and Graphite. However, Microsoft could do without the basic version with a 128 GB SSD, which could lead to an increase in the initial price. And the Type Cover will likely still be sold separately.
Surface 5 Laptop
The Surface Laptop range is due for an update, given that the fourth generation model was released in April 2021. Although no design changes are expected, the Laptop 5 seems like an upgrade important.
On the 13.5-inch and 15-inch models, the screen will have a 120Hz refresh rate. battery life) via the Dynamic Refresh Rate (DRR) feature of Windows 11.
Like the Surface Pro 9, you can also expect a move to 12th Gen Intel processors, likely the U-series designed for thin and light laptops. However, it has been suggested that the option for AMD processors be removed, which could lead to an increase in the initial price.
Other rumored improvements include a 1080p webcam (compared to 720p on the Laptop 4) and running Windows 11 out of the box, although the latter isn’t considered an improvement by everyone.
Surface Studio 3
It’s been four long years since Microsoft introduced the Surface Studio 2, but it looks like its successor is finally on the way.
Microsoft’s all-in-one PC is already very outdated, so it’s expected that at the very least the processors will be updated, likely from Intel’s 12th-gen lineup. However, it is possible that the company will continue its tradition of installing mobile processors in your desktop PC.
With the Studio 2 sporting an Nvidia RTX 980M and just 4GB of DDR5, both should be in line for a big upgrade. However, it’s unclear whether Microsoft is planning any updates or design changes to the 28-inch 3:2 display.
The price should also be taken into account: most people will not be willing to pay at least $3,499.
We also plan to launch a new Surface Keyboard and Surface Pen, but they may be sold separately.
Surface Earbuds 2
The evidence isn’t quite as strong on this one, but there are indications that Microsoft could be gearing up to release a second generation of its wireless headphones.
It’s been over two years since the originals were released, so clearly they should have been released. But when it comes to specs and possible features, nothing has been revealed.
What we don’t expect
However, if you’re expecting a new version of another Surface product, you’ll probably be disappointed. As it stands, these are the only three we expect.
This means we won’t see the Surface Duo 3, although Microsoft is working on it for a 2023 release. Which could be another very successful year for the Material of surface.
There’s also no word on a new version of Microsoft’s Surface Headphones. The second generation was released in 2020 and was generally well received, but it doesn’t look like a successor will arrive in October.
