The Sims 4 is 8 years old, and the number of packs and expansions is endless. Given this time, fans of the series are starting to ask what’s next for their favorite game.
Finally, EA has finally released a trailer for the future of The Sims franchise, dubbed “The Sims”Rene Plan‘ rather than The Sims 5; that is, it’s likely to be the fifth installment of The Sims, but it’s unclear if that’s actually the case. On the surface, Project Rene has a long way to go before it finally launches.
Developer Maxis shared its plans during the “Behind The Sims” summit, detailing what’s next for the series and how the developer plans to find new ways for players to experiment and express themselves.
First, the tentative name “Project Rene” was specifically chosen for the project, which the press release says was chosen “to evoke words like update, revival, and rebirth to represent the developer’s new commitment to The Sims” Bright future. “

A new title will “reimagine The Sims with more ways to play, tools that encourage creativity, and the ability to tell meaningful stories.” In fact, perhaps the biggest revelation is the upcoming The Sims The game will support multiplayer. “Players can choose to play solo or co-op and be able to play their game on supported devices.” That’s just something I wanted to do on The Sims from the beginning.
The rest of the summit focuses primarily on building and customization, showing the level of detail players can build to their heart’s content. Now, we’re certainly not used to a lot of detail in The Sims 3 and The Sims 4. For example, you can control how blankets and cushions are placed on the furniture, you can take the furniture apart to edit or reposition it to change the color and shape of the various items involved.
In addition to evolving building and multiplayer, it looks like Project Rene will also be available on multiple devices with cross-save. During the summit, Maxis showcased Project Rene on PC and mobile, which means mobile gamers will finally – hopefully – have a Sims game that doesn’t require the mobile device provided by The Sims FreePlay.
That said, to celebrate, there are now various rewards for The Sims 4, The Sims Mobile, and The Sims FreePlay. Plus, The Sims 4 is now free to play too!
Lyndsay Pearson, VP of Franchise Creative at The Sims, said: “Today marks the beginning of our journey over the next few years as we work on our next game and creative platform, currently called Project Rene. We build on the same foundation, which makes The Sims has captivated generations of players and pushed boundaries to create new experiences. We’ll share more as we progress through game development and milestones.”
