To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the release of the first game The Witcherannounced CD Projekt Red via a statement the website dedicated to the license, the development of The Witcher remake with the first details of the project.
Mentioned earlier in the month under the alias “Canis major‘, the remake will be a reinterpretation of the original game from 2007, the first part of the trilogy. The title is completely revised below Unreal engine 5
The project is currently in the very first stage of development by Polish studio Fool’s Theory. The latter employs many experienced developers who have already collaborated The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings as well as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. But they’re not the only ones holding the reins as CD Projekt is overseeing this remake.
The Witcher is the project that started it all for us, for CD PROJEKT RED. It’s the first game we made and it was a big moment for us back then. Going back to that era and recreating the game so that the new generation of players can experience it is just as important to us, maybe even more so.
Working with Fool’s Theory on the project is also exciting as a number of people from that studio were involved in developing The Witcher games. They know the source material well, they know how much gamers expect this kind of remake, and they know how to make ambitious and incredible games. And while it will be a while before we’re ready to share more about the game, I know it will be worth the wait.
