I had little confidence in Steam Deck
I have to admit: I’m a Nintendo Switch fan and the proof is that I have all the versions that the Japanese have released, both of the original model and OLED or Lite. My passion for him came from his condition as a laptop, so you can take it anywhere inside and outside the house. In other words, she was the only one that allowed me to live my passion, the only path that often remains at a player who works all day, has a family and little time to sit in front of a TV to enjoy the PS5, Xbox Series X or PC. For this reason, over the past four years, it’s by far the machine I’ve played the most and provided me with the most hours of entertainment, above any other console invention, PC, Mac or Chinese emulation.
And that’s how Steam Deck appears in March 2022. Valve’s store on the screen of a portable console, able to run any game
The result is that Steam Deck managed to keep my main Nintendo Switch, the OLED, going for two months in a drawer because I was able to take advantage of titles like Ring of Elden, God of the war, Judgement, Remastering Spider-Man, Wander, Red Dead Redemption 2, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Death Stranding Director’s Cut or most recent A plague tale requiem with extraordinary quality and fluidity, which I did not expect, so I was able to take the desktop experience wherever I went, without having to anchor myself in a chair for several hours.
New shopping habits
The most immediate result of this experiment is that I bought a lot of games that I already had on consoles and that for lack of time it was impossible to complete and finish them, so without knowing it transformed my shopping habits by opening the door to a Steam in which the prices are much cheaper than in the PlayStation Store, the Microsoft Store or the very Nintendo eShop. That, not to mention the possibility of acquiring keys in stores that do very good business with new products at half price.
Without a doubt, Valve has achieved this. After practically forgetting about its store and ecosystem, I’ve resumed the old habit of powering my PC with games because of a Steam Deck capable of running the latest versions and, of course, all those who will arrive in the near future. This, unfortunately, is impossible to achieve for the Nintendo Switch since their attempts to have AAA as Control
Goodbye Switch forever?
To say that I will no longer use Switch would be lying, and a lot, because there is a part of the catalog that will never be available on Steam Deck, such as Nintendo’s own releases. Now I know that YUZU exists (even Valve showed it in one of its official videos) and that many see this emulation as a way to play with the big Japanese franchises, but it is not in my plans to do something similar and illegal. So yes, as many fear, when The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom arrives next year there will be no doubt that I will put my new toy to rest to return to one of the best consoles I have ever owned.
But unfortunately, right now the gaming experience of the Steam Deck is so superior to that of the Nintendo Switch that it scares me to think that it will take a long time to turn it back on. And it is that Nintendo is Nintendo and although it pains me not to touch her dildo, she is respected.
