news hardware That’s it, Disney+ is increasing its prices and not just a little!
We saw it coming for a long time and now it’s official: Disney + will increase the price of its subscription and add a new option with advertising if you do not agree to see Star Wars or Marvel.
If there’s one platform that hosts major movies and series, it’s Disney+. The on-demand streaming service ranks the licenses dear to many fans, from countless Disney and Pixar animated films to Star Wars and Marvel films. What afford to charge these users a little more.
An expected and inevitable price increase
Launched in March 2020 in the midst of confinement, Disney+ has allowed many French people to pass the time during these two difficult months. At this time, The subscription costs only $6.99 per month. A single package available that allows access to the entire catalogue, 4k and four screens simultaneously. A highly competitive price to attract and retain as many customers as possible.
But two years after they made us dream with all their programs, On February 23, 2022, Disney brings us back to reality by increasing the price to $8.99. A small disappointment but a price that remains reasonable and above all lower than the competition like Netflix. The joy was (too) short-lived, as Disney’s CEO confirmed a second price increase a few weeks ago.
The change is not official at the moment than in the US, where the price of the monthly subscription goes from $7.99 to $10.99, an increase of more than 25%. Pretty intense.
So, it’s not exactly yet, but we now have an exact date for this price increase: next December 8th. No official announcement for France yet but it won’t be long. Currently at $8.99 per month, we are speculating on a small $12 per month by the end of 2022. Two increases in the same year, that’s a lot, right?
If you are a little smart and want to save as much money as possible without giving up your precious movies and series or discovering the catalog for the first time, We invite you to take out an annual subscription (currently available for $89.90) and benefit from the old price for a whole year.
A cheaper subscription… but with ads
Ads at a lower price on a video streaming platform. I have a feeling I’ve seen this before somewhere… In fact, it’s inspired by Netflix that Disney+ is launching a subscription option including ads at the same time as its December 8 price increase in the US.
No details on their species, but we hope they won’t be too invasive. In order to, for the same amount as before the price increase (i.e. $7.99 in the US and $8.99 in France), at least between episodes you will have to contend with advertising.
