Another Thursday has passed, which means it’s time to see what the next free-to-play game is coming to the Epic Games Store. As of now, Shadow Tactics: Blade of the Shogun and Alba are available to Epic users.
However, I think next week’s offerings will be a bit better, as both Dead of Evil: The Game and God of Darkness are available for free starting Thursday, November 17th to November 24th.
Evil Dead: The Game is undoubtedly the highlight of both products. The Epic Games exclusive game launched in May and sold over 500,000 units in its first week alone. Honestly, as far as the asymmetrical horror genre goes (although I’m getting tired of it), Evil Dead: The Game is certainly one of the more interesting drops in the general chaos of cult classic horror.
The game itself, developed by Sabre Interactive, pits four survivors (all key characters of the Evil Dead franchise, of course) against a demon. It’s the demon’s job to do everything in its power to stop the survivors, you know, the survivors, and the survivors have to hunt down the artifacts, walk with the demons, and stop the demons from completing their sinister plans.
Paired with maps straight from the Evil Dead movies, and plenty of witty one-liners, Evil Dead: The Game is a light-hearted, authentic take on what Sam Raimi excels at. Evil Dead: Free to Play on the Epic Games Store is undoubtedly a must-have for any Raimi fan, or even any horror fan. That being said, as I attested in my review of the funny horror titles, there’s no denying that once the novelty wears off, the fascinating nature of Wicked Dead: The Game fades pretty quickly.
Joining Evil Dead: Dark Deity in next week’s Epic Featured Free Game is Dark Deity. This tactical RPG from Sword & Axe LLC borrows heavily from the likes of Fire Emblem, which isn’t a bad thing. The game itself follows four military academy students thrown into war.
I can’t tell you how good or bad God of Darkness is, because tactical turn-based games are always a little too slow for me (unless we’re talking about Pokémon). That said, it’s free, so if you like Fire Emblem, it doesn’t hurt to check it out!
That’s all there is to Epic’s offerings for next week! Which of these games do you check out, or have you ever spent time with the likes of Alba and Shadow Tactics? let us know.
