All iPhone 15s will have USB-C according to the latest leaks, but the iPhone 15 Pro will have a very significant improvement.
One of the big changes expected in the iPhone 15 is the Replacement of the Lightning connection by USB-C. Before Apple is forced by the European Union to change connectors, the company will replace its Lighting connectors and that’s good news for everyone. However, the USB-C of the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will not be the same as that of the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max (or Ultra), as reported Ming Chi Kuo
It is logical that the entire iPhone range goes USB-C, Apple will thus have a single connector to charge all its devices, with the exception of the Apple Watch. And also it is logical that the speed used in the Pro models is higherbecause it’s probably something that is used mostly by those who take a lot of photos and videos with their device.
My latest survey indicates that all new 2H23 iPhones will ditch Lightning and switch to USB-C, but only two high-end models (15 Pro and 15 Pro Max) will support high-speed wired transfer, the standard two (15 and 15 Plus ) are still compatible with USB 2.0, as is Lightning.
iPhone 15 Pro USB-C speed will be higher
Kuo says the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will have USB-C but with the same USB 2.0 speeds as Lightning. This means data transfer speeds will be a maximum of 480 Mbps.
But in iPhone 15 Pro, the improvement will be much greater, Kuo reports that iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will have data transfer speeds of “at least USB-C 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3”. USB-C 3.2 is said to dramatically improve data transfer speeds, reaching up to 20 Gbps, while Thunderbolt 3 would boost it further to 40 Gbps.
I predict the 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max will support at least USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3. This spec upgrade means the wired transfer and video output user experience will improve significantly.
Of course, this is a much-needed improvement for the iPhone, beyond the connector, the problem is really the transfer speed. iPhone Pros are designed to take very high-quality photos and videos that take up a lot of space, and transferring those large files to a computer can take a long time with today’s USB 2.0 speeds.
It seems like Apple will fix this problem with the iPhone 15 Pro and this is very good news for all those who use, in particular, the photographic functions of the iPhone. Other users won’t really notice a big difference.
