The second trailer for Super Mario Bros. : The Movie aired yesterday during a special Nintendo Direct. It’s a two-minute trailer that has been released, which highlights new characters like Peach and Luigi, but also illustrates many references to the universe.

As we suspected yesterday, it’s Peach (dubbed by Anya Taylor-Joy in VO) who lends her voice to the princess of the Mushroom Kingdom. Donkey Kong (although silent in the trailer) is also present and has been remodeled for the occasion, while Luigi, the protagonist’s brother, seems to have retained his timid character and seems to be in an unenviable situation with Bowser.
This second trailer, which lasts just over two minutes, seems to narrate the arrival of Mario in the Mushroom Kingdom: it is therefore before he settles in the country as an essential figure since he is brought (we do not yet know how ) to Peach to help repel the invasion of the kingdom by the Eternal Bowser. A goal that will not be without obstacles, as shown by the trailer and the few mistakes Mario has suffered, whether against Donkey Kong or on platforms.

Therein lies the charm of the trailer released yesterday: it’s full of references to the Mario universe that fans will probably recognize at first glance. The first few seconds illustrate the beginnings of the plumber in the game Donkey Kong (released more than 40 years ago) who had to rescue a damsel in distress (it was Pauline at the time and not Peach) by crossing many red bridges while dodging the barrels, that are thrown at it. In any case, this trailer promises the feature film’s integration of several references from Mario’s adventures.
