If the Fallout series is going to have its share of loyalties, don’t count on strictly respecting what’s been done. The Prime Video show will clearly be taking liberties.
What to expect from the Fallout series? We’ll find gameplay elements, but from a screenwriting perspective, don’t expect a pure and hard adaptation of one or more episodes.
The Fallout series will tell an original story
Unlike the HBO adaptation of The Last of Us, the series Stand out will really differ from Bethesda’s games. There is no question that the makers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy (western world), as well as executive producer Todd Howard and Bethesda, will be starting almost from scratch.
In a Lex Fridman podcast, Todd Howard said the Prime Video show will tell an original story. It will of course fit within the universe of the license, with nods to the games, but it won’t be a repeat of the games. From now on, newcomers can jump on the moving train without getting lost.
We’ve chosen to tell a story that fits the world we’ve built, that doesn’t break any of the rules of this universe, that may refer to elements from the games but isn’t a repetition of the latter. It is a plot that exists in the same world and that, given its uniqueness, allows it to be enriched. Even people who haven’t played the games and might not know how cool Fallout is can watch the series.
The first images have indeed revealed a faithful series in terms of sets, features, etc. but will therefore be able to go its own way. While we await a trailer that may take some time, an official photo from the Fallout series has been released.
