During 2022 we have fantastic blockbusters such as Elden Ring, God of War Ragnarok y Horizon Forbidden Westbut they were independent titles like Neon White, Citizen Sleeper, Stray, Tunic, Pentiment e Immortality those who really conquered our hearts. We hope that this trend will continue in 2023 and that is why we present you with a list of the most anticipated independent or ‘indie’ games of that year.
If the mentioned games have a defined release date and platforms, we will mention them. However, we don’t know when most of them will be out. It is possible that some will be postponed to the year 2024.
Season: A Letter to the Future
This is a melancholic narrative game in which we are going to explore a world riding a bicycle before a cataclysm ends everything. Coming to Steam and PlayStation platforms on January 31, 2023.
It’s a peanut
This is a curious strategy game inspired by the art that we see in the margins of medieval manuscripts. We will be able to play it on Xbox and PC platforms from January 31, 2023.
Blanc
This beautiful black and white cooperative adventure will put us in control of a small wolf and a small deer stranded in the snow and who must team up to survive. Coming to Nintendo Switch and PC on February 14, 2023.
Nine Sols
We have already talked a bit about the next work of Red Candle Gamesthe Taiwanese studio responsible for the excellent Detention y Devotion. Although they leave terror aside, they continue to be inspired by Asian legends and mythologies to shape this 2D action adventure.
Dordogne
In this beautifully visualized narrative game we take on the role of Mimi, a young woman who relives her childhood memories during a visit to her recently deceased grandmother’s house in the Dordogne, France. She will be out for PC and all modern consoles.
Silksong
There is no doubt that the sequel to Hollow Knight It is one of the most anticipated games of 2023, if not the most. We have been waiting for the arrival of this ‘metroidvania’ for many years and everything indicates that this year will be the one chosen for its release. We will have it on Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox and PlayStation platforms.
Hades II
We haven’t been able to stop thinking about this game ever since was announced during The Game Awards 2022. Hades is one of the best indie games and we want to know what surprises Supergiant Games has in store for us in this sequel starring Melinoe, Zagreus’s sister. It is likely that the game will not be “complete” in 2023, but surely we will be able to play the early access version this year.
Dredge
There aren’t enough games that combine fishing and horror. Can you think of another one apart from the bizarre Killer Bass? That will begin to change with the arrival of Dredge, a fishing adventure that hides some truly terrifying things in the depths of the ocean. We can play it on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox and PlayStation platforms.
Gunbrella
Devolver Digital will publish this 2D action game that has a fun ‘neo-noir’ style. We are going to face gangsters and monsters using the title ‘Gunbrella’, a multipurpose firearm that, among many things, will serve as an umbrella. We will see it on Nintendo Switch and PC.
Sea of Stars
The creators of the popular The Messenger they are working on a turn-based combat RPG that makes us feel very nostalgic for the 16-bit era. This beautiful title will be released for PC, Mac, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation consoles in mid-2023.
Another Crab’s Treasure
Some of us are already tired of so much ‘soulslike’, but none has looked as original as this one. In this title from the creators of the fun and satirical Going Under
Wizard with a Gun
Another title that will be published by Devolver Digital. In this survival adventure with randomly generated scenarios, we control wizards with guns and we can join up with several friends to eliminate enemies, combine spells and customize our weapons to our liking. It will be out on Switch and PC.
This is just a small sample of the most anticipated independent or ‘indie’ games for us among all those that will arrive in 2023. We cannot stay without mentioning the striking Storyteller, Spirittea, Terra Nil, Pupperazzi, Oxenfree II: Lost Signals, Anger Foot, Gestalt: Steam & Cinder y Mineko’s Night Market.
