At the end of October, The Information fueled the rumor that Apple would develop a large iPad Pro. He was talking about a screen that could be 14 or even 16 inches, intended for the most professional and demanding audience. Ross Young, a source with very powerful contacts in the display industry, even elaborated on the power of this iPad last summer.
Now it’s Ross Young himself who says we’re not going to see a big iPad. Apple would have canceled it from its agenda, or at most would have delayed it to relaunch it in a few years. The company preferred to redirect its efforts.
From mini-LED to OLED, there are more intermediate steps
From now on, the future of the iPad Pro will go through the arrival of new 11.1 and 13 inch models in 2024, making the leap to OLED panels. These are screens that are a little larger than the current 11 and 12.9 inches, although Apple would seek to reduce the edges so as not to have to change the size of the tablets.
The wait would not be two full years: these new iPad Pros would arrive at the beginning of 2024 and not in the fall as was usually the case until now. There would be no generations in between with more mini-LED panels: indeed, DigiTimes recently stated that demand for these panels is down. And that may mean that Apple no longer wants to rely on them for its next devices.
Beyond screens and sizes, at the moment we still have no rumors about the rest of the specifications of these new iPads. We’ll continue to wait for more leaks as we (we assume) see more products launch in 2023.
