Elden Ring knocks The Last of Us Part 2 off first place.
The year 2022 is over and the game prizes are distributed. It’s no wonder that the ubiquitous Soulslike Elden Ring scooped most of the Game of the Year (GOTY) awards. But not only that, it has most GOTY awards ever received and thus attracts The Witcher 3 and The Last of Us Part 2 over.
Success in numbers
how PCGamesN reported, with 324 awards, Elden Ring has significantly more success to celebrate than the other games from 2022. At the Game Awards, for example, the title took first place in Game of the Year, Best Role-Playing Game, Best Art Design and Best Game Direction to back up. But the Soulslike was also able to win at the Steam Awards. Here are the five top-ranked titles by number of prizes (as of January 3, 2022):

Until last year, the record was held by The Last of Us Part 2, released in 2020, which received 322 awards. Previously, it was The Witcher 3, released in 2015, with 281 prizes.

The result should be treated with caution
The result says nothing more than that Elden Ring is the best title of 2022 for many critics and players. Just because it has the most GOTY awards of all time doesn’t necessarily make it the best game of all time. While there is objective evidence by which to rate a game, you decide which is the best game for you.
It should be noted that the distribution of prizes largely depends on the competition. This was relatively small due to the few Triple-A games in 2022. Alone God of War Ragnarök could also capture many prizes. In comparison to 2015 and 2020, it is also important to note that there were more prizes in 2022which could potentially be won, giving Elden Ring an advantage.
All of that doesn’t change the fact that Elden Ring is insanely successful. Much more successful than comparable Soulslikes, also from FromSoftware. We show you why in this video:
