The pirates on Guilty Gear Strive
While Arc System Works games aren’t exactly known for their online game stability — we still remember the launch of Dragon Ball FighterZ — things got even worse earlier in the week. The hit game Guilty Gear Strive,
These pirates took advantage of the bugs of the so-called “R-Code”, a program that contains all sorts of information about the players, such as their nickname, but also the number of their wins and losses. This system, which already showed its weaknesses a few years ago, has therefore been attacked again, preventing some players from connecting or fully enjoying their game. When you participate in an online game, the hacker has fun changing certain details of the R code, e.g. B. your player name, and can even force you to send messages in game chat to slow down the game.
The problem currently affects only a few players and generally those with a strong community, however it attacks all game modes as long as you are connected. To “work around” the problem, Stephen Lyon aka Sajam, a commentator on fighting game tournaments, then recommends taking his game offline.
There is a feature to follow people in Guilty Gear Strive. Therefore, even if the person is not streaming their games, it is possible to know when they are online or not and therefore take things. So the solution to practice is to play in offline mode. Stephen “Sajam” Lyon, host of fighting game tournaments
For his part, Julian “Hotashi” Harris, a pro Guilty Gear Strive player, points out that hackers appear on both PCs and consoles.
Serious consequences?
The developers are obviously aware of the problem. Zack “Shini” Tan, a producer at Arc System Works, announced on Twitter that he was “back in the office” to review all reports.
Unfortunately, although the Arc System Works team is working on the case, This hack nevertheless led to the postponement of the Strive VTuber tournament, which was scheduled to start on January 6th. We can only hope that everything will return to normal as soon as possible.
