Microsoft has joined a growing list of gaming companies, withdrawing from the game developer conference in San Francisco next month due to corona-related concerns.
Microsoft announced in a new blog post that it will no longer attend this year's conference due to public health issues.
The statement said: "After careful review of the guidelines by global health authorities and due consideration, we made a difficult decision to withdraw from the 2020 San Francisco Game Developers Conference." "Player, developers, employees and our global partnership The health and safety of our partners is our number one priority, especially as the world is experiencing increasing public health risks associated with coronavirus (COVID-19). "
Instead, the company will broadcast a digital-only event during GDC March 16-18, which will include most of the planned game developer meetings. These included group discussions, including the evolution of game development, game design that was intentionally included, the growing role of online services, the future of next-generation hardware, and game streaming.
The live event will also explore behind the scenes the development options of Minecradft and Gears of War manufacturers, as well as the appearance of Double Fine, inXile, Compulsion, Rare, Obsidian and Undead Labs.
Microsoft is now the latest gaming company to cancel the GDC program. Earlier today, Unity announced that it will no longer show up for health issues this year. Sony, Oculus and Kojima Productions also recently withdrew from the annual conference. GDC 2020 is still on schedule and will be held from March 16th to 20th.
