Everspace 2 launches in April, but not on Xbox One or PS4

April, Everspace, launches, PS4, Xbox

Everspace 2, the epic single-player space shooter from Rockfish, is finally nearing full release. The developer announced today that the game will exit Early Access on April 6. After more than two years of active development, with the release of six major content updates, this milestone has finally arrived.

The final major update will include more enemies, equipment types, challenges, and add more polish to the game’s animations. It also brought a new companion star and a whole new star system to explore.

The release date trailer is also a good reminder of the story.

Everspace 2 is coming to consoles, but only on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. You can expect them to release in the summer, but those hoping to play the game on PS4 and Xbox One will be disappointed to learn that those versions have been canceled.

“Our vision for Everspace 2 takes us beyond the limitations of previous generation consoles,” explained Rockfish CEO Michael Schade.

“Our team spent a lot of time trying to create an experience that would satisfy our fans on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, but scaling Everspace 2 down to those platforms just didn’t achieve the level of quality we wanted to deliver,” he added .

Given that some of Everspace 2’s budget came from crowdfunding, Rockfish said it would be reaching out to Kickstarter backers who specifically pledged their support for the previous-gen version. Backers can get copies of PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, or get refunds if they don’t have access to those platforms.

Yes, Everspace 2 is a facade.

Even back in 2021, I was impressed with Everspace 2. It’s evolved a lot since then, but it’s still the closest thing we have to a modern freelancer.

Finally, to reflect everything that’s been added to the game so far, Rockfish will increase the price from $40 to $50 starting February 20. So, if you’re itching to play Everspace 2, you might want to grab it on Steam before the price goes up, where you’ll also find the demo. Alternatively, you can also play on Game Pass.

Beyond that, you can also expect more details on the console version when the PC version launches on April 6.
